Winter 1947 in the British Isles
Daily Charts Master Page
Charts for N.Atlantic, Europe and British Isles from the Met Office Daily Weather Reports, together with discussion

Bassaleg, Newport, S. Wales. early March 1947. My parents pose, with the car, after digging out.

From late January to mid March 1947 many parts of the British Isles experienced record low temperatures and persistent snow cover. As a young child my parents would tell me tales of this epic winter which has only been matched since then by 1962/63. Some years ago I was fortunate enough to acquire a set of Daily Weather Reports for early 1947. I have used these to produce this website as a record of what must rank as one of the most notable winters of the 20th Century.
